Beverly Barkelew

Beverly G. Barkelew, 78, of Mexico, MO died at 11:15 a.m. April 22, 2005, at Mexico Manor.

Mrs. Barkelew was born on May 16, 1926, in Monett, MO, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Millman Hammond. On July 25, 1948, in Monett, she married Robert H. Barkelew, who survives at the home. She was a graduate of Monett High School in the class of 1944, and attended Drury College for two years. She was a member of the Mexico Women's Club, Duplicate Bridge Club and the Audrain Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved to knit afghans, was an avid golfer, snow skier and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the Mexico United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, W. Bruce Barkelew, Columbia, MO; a daughter, Barbara Bratton, Columbia, MO; four grandchildren, Jason Bratton, Kansas City, MO, Leslie Bratton, Toronto, Canada, Zachary Barkelew, Columbia, MO, and Cadence Barkelew, Sydney, Australia.

One son, Barry Hammond Barkelew, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Stone officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to the Audrain Medical Center Auxiliary or the American Diabetes Association, and may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 North Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
